Verde Valley Theatre announces auditions for Bernard Slade’s light-hearted confection about love, friendship and theatrical trauma, Romantic Comedy. Auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday, March 2nd and 3rd from 6:30 to 8:30 in the Clark Memorial Clubhouse auditorium in Clarkdale. Callbacks may be held Wednesday, March 3rd.<BR>
First produced on Broadway in 1979 starring Mia Farrow and Anthony Perkins, this romantic tale of two playwrights traces their relationship from first encounter through successful collaborations, culminating finally in a romantic relationship. Along the way spouses and lovers come and go, making a delightful mix of obstacles for the couple before their ultimate union.<BR>
The cast calls for 2 males and 4 females. Rehearsals begin about March 15 and performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 2 PM, opening April 25 and closing May 11, 2008.<BR>

Verde Valley Theatre’s production of THE BEST MAN, by Gore Vidal, plays Feb. 22 through March 9 at the Clark Memorial Clubhouse in Clarkdale. The play is a sparkling political drama, set in the 1960’s, about two candidates vying for the Democratic Presidential nomination. William Russell, the ex-Secretary of State, is a wit and scholar with high liberal principles, beloved of the eggheads and suspected by practical politicians. Joseph Cantwell is a ruthless and hard-driving young man, a dirty fighter who will let no scruples stand in the way of his ambitions. And Arthur Hockstader is an ex-President, who loves politics for their own sake, admires a rough-and-tumble battler more than a chivalrous one, and is determined to have the final say in the selection of his party’s candidate. The ruthless young man has got hold of papers indicating that his rival once suffered from a mental crackup, which he is all set to use. Then his scrupulous antagonist comes across some incriminat<BR>
ing evidence about Cantwell, which he is loath to produce. The scruples don’t appeal to the ex-President, who enjoys seeing the boys fight.<BR>
Audiences are sure to enjoy this riveting production, which is particularly timely during this primary election season.<BR>

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances are at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees are at 2:00 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance. All performances are at the Clark Memorial Clubhouse in Clarkdale. Reserved tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for students. Tickets are $2 extra when purchased at the door. Opening Night tickets, which include a wine and cheese reception at 6:30 p.m., are $5 extra (no extra charge to Season Subscribers). If you’re looking for some original entertainment this winter, Verde Valley Theatre is pleased to present the Abandoned Minds show titled “Live. Love. Laugh!”. This audience inspired improvisational theatre show “is guaranteed to shift your mood from black and white to technicolor” according to Kerry Biondo, performer and creative director of Sedona’s audacious Improv troupe known as Abandoned Minds.<BR>

Back by popular demand, the ensemble will be performing Friday and Saturday, January 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. This event will take place at the Clark Memorial Clubhouse , located at 19 N. 9th St. in Clarkdale.<BR>

If you haven’t seen Abandoned Minds lately, make a point to. The troupe has been performing together for four years now and have grown to become a very tight ensemble. The troupes forte is the ability to take the audience on an imaginative roller coaster ride throughout the evening via comedy and drama. They give the audience a full Improv theatre experience—including short form (“Whose Line is it Anyway” style games), long form (20 minute organic play based on an audience suggestion) and the always popular musical Improv (creating songs in the moment).<BR>

The company is directed by Improv veteran Kerry Biondo who had the good fortune of studying the Del Close method of Improv in Chicago 15 years ago. This style places an emphasis on the “group mind” concept that develops during Improv when everything done is accepted, and the player’s minds become wired together to create a “Supermind”. The “superminds” in this troupe are Marah Adelson, JC Alvarez, Kerry Biondo, Derek Dujardin, Chad Graf, Brad Luky, Tom Puetz, Shaeri Richards, guitarists Kenny Cunningham and Bill McLane. <BR>

At the January 8 meeting of the Clarkdale Town Council, Verde Valley Theatre was awarded a "Spirit of Clarkdale" Award for Community Volunteerism. The award certificate, presented by Mayor Doug Von Gausig, reads: "In recognition and appreciation for creating a positive impact and enhancing the quality of life in the Town of Clarkdale." <BR>
